Who We Are

The Thompson Labour Council (TLC) shall consist of all labour organizations in the Thompson area which become affiliated with the Council.

These organizations shall conform to the By-Laws and the rules and regulations of the Council.

The TLC advocates for workers’ rights and safety. It supports affiliates in their advocacy to uphold fairness for all workers.

The purpose of the Labour Council shall be:

  1. To support the principles and policies of the Canadian Labour Congress.
  2. To promote the interests of its affiliates and generally to advance the economic and social welfare of workers.
  3. To assist affiliated organizations in extending their benefits of mutual assistance and collective bargaining to workers.
  4. To assist in the organization of the unorganized into unions for their mutual aid, protection and advancement.
  5. To encourage all workers without regard to race, creed, sex, age, colour or national origin to share in the full benefits of Union organization.
  6. To protect and strengthen our democratic institutions, to secure full recognition and enjoyment of the rights and liberties to which we are justly entitled, and to preserve and perpetuate the cherished traditions of our Democracy.
  7. To preserve the independence of the Labour movement from political control, to encourage workers to vote, to exercise their full rights and responsibilities of the citizenship, and to perform their rightful part in the political life of the municipal, provincial and federal governments.
  8. To establish communications among affiliated Labour organizations.
  9. To make representations to government bodies.

*The Thompson Labour Council meets on the first Thursday of each month (excluding July and August) at 5 pm at the United Steelworkers Local 6166 building.
